rAAV specifically transduces nigral dopamine neurons. Coupled with a strong promoter, this allows us to make the nigrostriatal tract essentially transgenic. Along the bottom of this figure is the site of injection of 2 µl of rAAV-cba-GFP (UF11) stained for GFP with standard DAB development. The zona compacta is virtually 100% transduced which is supported by the innervation pattern of striatum shown in the top panels.
